Whether you're a photographer, a nature lover, or simply looking for a memorable experience, Cerro San Cristobal provides a unique perspective on the Chilean capital. Cerro San Cristobal's history is intertwined with the development of Santiago. Originally a sacred site for the indigenous peoples, it was later claimed by the Spanish conquistadors. In the early 20th century, the iconic statue of the Virgin Mary was erected at the summit, solidifying its religious significance. The park surrounding the hill has been developed over the years, offering various attractions and recreational spaces for locals and tourists alike. Visitors can ascend Cerro San Cristobal via several options. The most popular is the funicular, a historic cable car that climbs the hillside. Alternatively, you can take the teleférico (cable car) from Parque Metropolitano, offering stunning aerial views. For the more adventurous, hiking trails wind their way up the hill. At the summit, you'll find the Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception, the Japanese Garden, and several viewpoints. Don't forget to try a "mote con huesillos," a traditional Chilean drink made with peaches, wheat, and syrup, sold by vendors at the top.
